Daily Report May 9, 2006
Today was reserved for just driving. We had to travel 1,800 km (1,100 miles) from Navojoa to Puebla where we were scheduled to visit the Volkswagen plant. The day proofed very exhausting with several traffic jams and a malfunctioning air mass sensor. Unfortunately, we were unable to make up any time although we were moving along quite fast in compliance with the speed limits. We arrived at the VW plant in Puebla at 11 p.m., 10 hours behind schedule. Despite the late hour we are welcomed by TV crews, radio reporters, the Marketing and Communication team, technicians, spectators, interpreters and a high-ranking delegation from Schenker Mexico which included its president. Even our film crew which arrived by plane the day before, was present after an exciting day of filming in Mexico City and recorded the scene at the VW plant. We were greeted very warmly and praised for our dedication and commitment. After technical inspections, the replacement of a fuel filter, some photo opportunities and interviews, we left Puebla and headed for Guatemala. We are excited to see what awaits us there, and hope to at least partially make up the time we lost.
